On this week's unserious episode of the PosCast Joe and Mike are discussing baseball players names. Plus, they check in on the MLB All-Star rosters and some other meaningless things!
“Misled” never an issue for me. “Resigned” in context of contracts, EVERY time I read it like “resigned” as in “resignation.” So sports off seasons, I will see countless players who I immediately think have quit only to have to reset myself and figure it out.
Hey! When you guys start checking the comments like you promised, where the heck are the "Emergency Poscast" from a little over a month ago and the "On The Move" podcast from about 4 weeks ago??
Not sure if this is a glitch - I usually listen on Apple podcasts and this episode is only 1:39 long and is a random clip from the names segment. Listened in full here on Substack but just wondering if it will also be on Apple going forward.
Also, I get ants in my kitchen every spring and feel the same way about killing them en masse. I will contribute to your Ant Vacuum kickstarter.
Wait never mind I’m an idiot. The full show is there, followed by the additional clip where Joe and Mike offer to steal our identities for content lol. Carry on.
1) Yeah, that "what team does this name sound like it belong on?" was the dumbest segment, so far. I'm not saying that this is an absolute low, but it was a NEW low.
2) Jason DeGrom is a Met. He's a Met. Nothing tragic or sad can happen to him.
I am Red Sox fan. I was raised to be a Red Sox fan. I will always love Roger, and I know that nothing bad enough can happen to The Mets, The Yankees or any of their players. Zim taking a tumble in that uniform? Yeah, that was funny, and good thing.
Former Mets? Man, they probably deserve whatever baseball ills have befallen them. Former Yankees? Yeah, they almost CERTAINLY deserve whatever baseball misfortune that they have reaped.
But current players? Current Yankees and Mets? Yeah, no question. Let them be baseball damned to blisters and pulls and tears and losing command of their pitches. Stubbing their toes and missing weeks or months? Yeah, sounds good to me.
Holy hell. Last week, I Was justing thinking last week that Matt Strahm was born to play for the Phillies. Just such a Phillies name. Can't believe the podcast is now talking about this concept

There is a reliever for the Blue Jays whose last name is Pop. Unfortunately he doesn’t throw nearly enough strikes or his nickname should be K-Pop.

And what about the names that seem like they don't quite belong to our present times at all?
Wade Boggs is a brilliant baseball name, but it feels like he should be a teammate of Tungsten Arm O'Doyle.
As noted before, Joey Bart was once a Giant. Also, Mickey Moniak was once a Phillie.
I also have seen misled as MIZeled for most of my 71 years. Glad to be in good company with Joe.

What Joe has with "misled", I have with awry. I know how to say it in real life, but every time I read it, my mind goes "aww-ree"
Joey Bart was once a Giant 😉
