"What a terrible experience this has been." - Brandon McCarthy.

Still the best line spoken during a holiday draft.

This seems like the place to mention - bear with me - that I am a Notre Dame grad, class of 2000. My freshman year was Lou Holtz's last year, and while Lou has taken a hard right turn that I'd rather never think about, it's been a long 28 years in the woods. (I expect no sympathy, I get it, it's Notre Dame I'm talking about.) Still, this team is very exciting! Jeremiyah Love jumps dudes like he's Mario! Xavier Watts intercepts dudes constantly! Sure, our wide receivers are wholly anonymous and I'm not certain Riley Leonard can throw a ball further than I can, I'm very excited that ND is hosting Indiana in the first on-campus playoff game this Friday at 8 pm! Football! In northern Indiana at night in late December!!! What's not to be excited about?!?!

Where will I be? Taking my 11-year old and his best friend to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert in Newark, NJ, at 7:30 pm.

Thanks, McCarthy. This is your fault somehow.

At the risk of being too meaningful...it's been a rough year, and I haven't really been feeling the holiday spirit this season. But Jason's pick was spot on...the Holiday Draft really does fill me with cheer every time. Thank you for continuing with this ridiulous nonsense every December.

I'm so excited to be disappointed in everyone’s draft picks…except Nick Offerman, of course because he never misses.

Let me throw in three Chanukah things not mentioned in the draft:

1. The smell and sound of the "tester", the latke you put in just after the oil gets hot enough, to share among a few people to see whether you need to add more salt to the batter.

2. The moment on the last night of Chanukah when the menorah has all nine candles and you can feel the holiday is almost complete.

3. Watching kids who only see one another a few times a year, children of relatives and chosen family, playing dreidel. We had a "magic dreidel" that always came up gimel (which means you win) and all the kids who came to our Chanukah parties when our son was little knew it was there, but every year they had to find it again.

I thought it was a joke until I kept getting ads for it (the theater is four miles from my house). This is a freaking Christmas tradition. And they have given $20 million to charity! https://www.thegazette.com/music/trans-siberian-orchestra-celebrating-holiday-season-milestone/

Aren't we supposed to be able to see them? It's what I paid for on this substack.
