I finally finished this behemoth podcast today. Man, I know that a loose connection to facts and reason is part of the Poscast brand, but that Orioles analysis at the end was so dumb it was painful. The sad thing is Molly Knight is paid to be informed about baseball and her discussion with Joe about the O's was almost as bad.

They have decried the O's multiple times for not trading for Jack Flaherty in 2024. They seem to have no idea they traded for Zach Eflin.

Jack Flaherty in '24 with the Dodgers, regular season: 10 GS 3.68 ERA, playoffs: 5 GS 7.36 ERA

Zach Eflin in '24 with the O's, regular season: 9 GS 2.60 ERA, playoffs: 1 GS 2.25 ERA

Nobody on July 31, 2024 thought the O's needed to trade for an impact bat because they were a top 3 offense all year up to that point. Nobody thought they would go as cold as they did. They scored one run in two WC games. Tarik Skubal would not have fixed that.

It's a bummer to say, but you get the sense that Schur has turned into the kind of guy he made fun of on Fire Joe Morgan. If you sat him down and explained that not only was Eflin better than Flaherty after the trading deadline this year, but Eflin's been a better pitcher for several years now, it feels like he would say something about how the stats don't show how Flaherty's a "gamer," or how trading for him would "send a message to the league" or something.

Not having listened yet, I have to assume 30 minutes of this is just Mike laughing at the Yankees loss.

I've been listening to the previous Holiday Drafts this week so I can prepare myself for the disappointment I’ll have in everyone participating. Except Nick Offerman because he's Nick Offerman.

If the election doesn't turn out the way I hope and the whole world comes crashing down, I know that I can always return to this episode and find a little peace hearing your perfect/hilarious dissection of the Great Yankee Meltdown.

The Yankee hatred turns Mike into a bit of a Joe Morgan-esque curmudgeon. The Yankees did have the second highest WAR in baseball and lost to the team with the highest WAR. Hard to say they were “exposed.” This reminds me of Morgan’s discussions of the A’s in 2001.

Thank you for your restraint in keeping it to the time limit

Shame on Mike Schur. Jeffrey Maier played at Wesleyan in Connecticut not far from Mike’s hometown. BTW, he is in the Wesleyan baseball HOF and so am I. Class of 1980. And Harvard was a safety school for us Wes students.

Saw the title, guessed the time would be 2:05. And even that wasn’t aggressive enough. Wow.

But I’m a Yankee fan so who knows when I’ll actually listen.
